SBH Celebrates World Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Day
The International Federation for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus (IF) in General Meeting in Guatemala, 2011 to raise awareness and understanding about Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus (SBH).
It also served as a means to advocate and promote the Rights of persons with these conditions. WSBH was held for the first time on 25th October 2012 at the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
Theme: UNLOCKING THE RIGHTS TO HEALTH OF PERSONS WITH SBH
Why the Need to Unlock the Right to Health (SBH)
Health is an enabler of Inclusion. Article 25 of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) states that “Persons with disabilities have the Right to the enjoyment of the Highest Attainable Standard of Health without discrimination based on disability.” The right to health by Article 25 of UNCRPD is a high priority of IF and the global Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus (SBH) community. Stigmatization, discrimination and lack of awareness creation puts further barriers to the easy accessibility to health facilities, health administration or health management of Persons with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus.
Therefore, the International Federation for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus presents “the World Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Day 2021 (WSBH)” with the theme, “Unlocking the Rights to Health of Persons with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus (SBH)”. The barriers may vary from one community to another. So, it will be expedient for the various Stakeholders to identify the SBH Health barriers in their communities and play a key role in supporting to remedy the situation.
To celebrate the World Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Day (WSBH) on the 25th of October 2021, Rickmes Foundation launches the Stakeholder’s Meeting 2021 on this year’s topic: “Unlocking the Rights to Heath of Persons with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus (SBH)”.
Rickmes Foundation is organizing the event for this year’s World Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus with Greater Accra Regional Hospital, and the National Consortium for Voluntary Organization (NCVO) with the objective to explore the Barriers to the Rights to Heath for Persons with #SpinaBifida and #Hydrocephalus #WSBHD21 #IFSBH
